Design of Experiments
Design of Experiments
Course Description
This course provides an introduction to the Design of Experiments (DoE), a structured method for determining the relationship between factors affecting a process and the output of that process. Using the classical experimental approach participants will be guided from the strategy of experimentation through to the implementation of fractional factorial experiments.
Who Should Take It
This course is designed for those within the organization who are tasked with process or quality improvement. This includes:
- Technical Professionals
- Engineers
- Technicians
- Process Improvement Practitioners
- Technical Managers
Learning Objectives
Through a combination of presentation, discussion and in-class exercises, participants will understand:
- The need for, and advantages of, experimental design
- Experimental strategy
- Simple comparative experiments
- Review of basic statistical concepts
- Hypothesis testing
- Limitations of simple experiments
- Experiments with a Single Factor
- Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
- The Fixed Effects Model
- Randomized Block Designs
- Factorial Designs
- Two-factor factorial design
- The 2k factorial design
- Centre points, randomization and blocking in the 2k design
- Mixed level designs
- Two-level Fractional Factorial Design
Prerequisites
Some knowledge of inferential statistics, including confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, and ANOVA is helpful.
